Cabo Verde is a land of diversity, diversity in colors, culture, tradition, and even history, it's amusing how history has different tales coming from different people, nothing is right or wrong, it just depends on who you ask or who's asking.
According to the facts online.
Dr. António Manuel da Costa Lereno, born in the Viseu region and deceased in Lisbon (1850-1916) but linked civically and professionally to Cape Verde for many years. His son, Álvaro de Paiva de Almeida Lereno was born in Brava The connection to Luís de Camões is because the monument that the people of Santiago erected for him is located in this small square on the plateau (and on the plateau, there is a street named after Dr. Lereno). next to which a local woman points out to her son the figure of the illustrious doctor who had meritorious action in defending the health of the population of the region… although the Monument was authored by the Lisbon sculptor Maximiano Alves. Looking closely at the image I noticed the expression of another artist on the statue, an Indigenous person I presume, the local woman had a middle finger pointed at him, quite amusing to me so I went running for answers, I had conversations with some locals, some old enough to have experienced it personally or have seen their parents go through it, the colonization, they had a different story which seems quite contrary to the historical facts online. Personally, I believe, that view is what you see and perspective is how you see what you view.
